Angioplasty : often referred to as balloon angioplasty, is a procedure designed to open up arteries, allowing blood to flow more freely. This minimally invasive technique is employed by healthcare providers to address narrow or blocked areas in arteries caused by plaque buildup. Individuals with coronary artery disease or those who have experienced a heart attack may require coronary angioplasty. Additionally, this procedure can be applied to other regions of the body where arteries are narrowed or obstructed, including the neck, arms, legs, kidneys, and pelvis. By performing angioplasty, more blood can pass through an artery that has become too narrow or blocked, ensuring that the organs supplied by that artery receive an improved blood flow following the procedure.

Treatment Procedure:

• Catheter Insertion A thin tube (catheter) is inserted through a small incision, usually in the wrist or groin, and guided to the coronary arteries.
• Balloon Inflation Once the catheter reaches the blocked artery, a small balloon at the tip is inflated to compress the plaque against the artery walls, widening the vessel.
• Stent Placement Involves placing a stent, a small mesh like metallic tube is inserted during angioplasty to help keep the artery open and prevent re-narrowing.
